Types of Visas in the UAE

Every stay in the UAE — for work, investment, family or a short visit — needs a visa that matches its purpose.

EMP-01

Employment Visa

Popular

Issued through your employer or company sponsor, permitting you to live and work in the UAE for a fixed period.

  • Sponsored by your employer or company
  • Requires medical test & Emirates ID
  • Renewable with your employment contract
INV-02

Investor / Partner Visa

Owners

For shareholders, directors and business owners — tied to your ownership stake in a UAE company.

  • Available to shareholders & directors
  • Unlocks your own employee visa quota
  • Lets you sponsor dependents
GLD-03

Golden Visa

10-Year

A long-term residence visa for investors, property owners, students and innovators — no sponsor required.

  • 10-year renewable validity
  • No sponsor required
  • Eligible to sponsor spouse & children
TUR-04

Visit / Tourist Visa

Short Stay

A short-stay visa for tourists and visitors, valid for a fixed number of days — not permitted for employment.

  • Fixed validity periods
  • Visa-on-arrival for eligible nationalities
  • No work rights on this visa
FAM-05

Family / Sponsor Visa

Dependents

Allows residence visa holders to sponsor their spouse, children and, in some cases, parents.

  • Sponsor must meet salary requirement
  • Covers spouse, children & eligible parents
  • Requires attested certificates
MAD-06

Maid Visa

Household

Permits a domestic helper to live and work in the UAE under the sponsorship of their employer.

  • Sponsor must meet tenancy & income rules
  • Requires a signed labor contract
  • Tied to the sponsoring household
Family Sponsorship

Bring Your Family to the UAE

Once you hold a UAE residence visa and meet the minimum salary requirement, you can sponsor your spouse, children and parents to join you. Opening a company — Free Zone or Mainland — also gives you an Investor Visa and your own quota to sponsor employee visas. PBS Consultancies helps you get the paperwork right the first time, avoiding delays and rejections.

The 6-Month Rule

  • Residence visa holders who stay outside the UAE for more than six months continuously have their visa automatically nullified
  • A new entry permit is required to re-enter the UAE once this happens
  • Golden Visa holders are exempt and may stay abroad longer

Who's Exempt

  • Domestic helpers accompanying their sponsor's family abroad for studies or treatment
  • Government employees sent abroad for treatment or specialist training
  • Foreign wives of UAE nationals, sponsored by their husbands
  • Students studying at universities or institutes abroad
Documentation

Avoid Delays

Common Reasons Visa Applications Get Rejected

The UAE visa process is quick when done right. Most rejections come down to a handful of avoidable mistakes.

01Denied

Uncancelled Previous Visa

Held a UAE visa before and left without cancelling it — immigration clearance is needed before a new application can be approved.

02Denied

Handwritten Passports

Passports that are handwritten rather than machine-printed are automatically rejected by UAE immigration.

03Denied

Prior Offences in the UAE

Applicants with a previous criminal record, fraud, or misconduct case in the UAE will see their application rejected.

04Denied

No-Show on a Prior Visa

Previously issued a tourist or employment visa but never entered the country — this history can block future applications.

05Denied

Typos & Misspellings

Errors in your name, passport number, or profession code cause delays or outright rejection.

06Denied

Unclear or Unreadable Copies

Blurry passport scans or unclear photos are a common, easily avoidable reason for rejection or delay.

Common Questions

Visa questions, answered clearly

Everything you need to know before applying for a UAE visa.

Just a colour copy of your passport and a passport-size photo with a white background — one of the simplest visa categories to apply for.

Passport copies and photos of each dependent, your original passport and Emirates ID, an attested marriage certificate (for a spouse), an attested birth certificate (for children), your Ejari certificate, and six months of bank statements. You must also meet the minimum salary requirement.

No. Standard residence visa holders lose their visa if they stay outside the UAE for more than six months continuously, but Golden Visa holders are exempt and can stay abroad longer without affecting their residence status.

Yes. The Family Sponsor Visa allows residence visa holders who meet the minimum salary requirement to sponsor their spouse, children, and in eligible cases, their parents.

Most rejections come from avoidable mistakes — typos, unclear document copies, or an uncancelled previous visa. Working with a visa expert ensures every document is checked before submission, reducing the risk of delay or rejection.
